The Faith Formation program at St. Joseph the Worker and Holy Family parishes equips and encourages families and catechists to help children grow in faith, love, and charity based on the teachings of the Catholic Church.  We strive for our children to know, love, and serve God with the ultimate goal of eternal life in heaven.  Curriculum is based on sacred scriptures, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and on building a faith-filled relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer, learning the faith, and service to others.  The Holy Spirit guides us in sacramental preparation for first reconciliation, first Communion, and confirmation.   

Children's Liturgy of the Word is held during Mass on the 2nd and 4th Sundays (see schedule) for preschool-2nd grade students.  Children will leave Mass before the first reading to go to a separate room with the "Children's Liturgy of the Word" leaders to hear the Mass readings and a receive a message that is just right for their age.  A simple activity will engage students and help them understand the Gospel message.  Children return to their families after the homily to pray the Liturgy of the Eucharist together.

Kindergarteners through seventh graders attend faith formation classes on Wednesday evenings using Spirit of Truth (Sophia Institute for Teachers) curriculum.  This curriculum is student, teacher, and parent friendly in the classroom and online.  It is engaging, faith filled, based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and encourages a personal relationship with Jesus.

Our 2nd grade sacrament preparation includes:

• Weekly faith formation classes for all students receiving the sacraments of first reconciliation and first Communion.  
• Parent orientation meetings, learning centers, and in-person parent sessions for each sacrament.
• A first Communion retreat & rehearsal for reception of the sacrament.

Theology of the Body-YOU
This curriculum presents teens with the "extraordinary story of their creation as unrepeatable individuals" and "the truth that life is not, in fact, all about them; it is about going out of themselves to be a sincere gift for others." SJWHF Confirmation Preparation is a 2 year program, typically starting in 9th grade. 

Confirmation preparation includes:

• Weekly Mass and Holy Day of Obligation Mass attendance
• Serving family, church and community
• Researching and choosing a saint, including presenting saint to the 8th grade class
• Mentoring from a chosen sponsor
• Interviewing with Fr. Tim
• Encountering Christ in the sacraments, retreats, and Eucharistic Adoration
• Gaining a deeper understanding of the Catholic Church in faith formation classes 
• Learning about the Holy Spirit as our guide, our help, and our comfort-blessing us with gifts, fruits, and charisms.  

Journey of Faith for Teens introduces teens to the Catholic faith in a way that’s relevant to where they are in their own lives, using collaborative activities with group discussions and private journaling.

• Faith Formation Assistant on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:15 PM
• Children's Liturgy of the Word Assistant on 2nd and 4th Sundays
• Director's assistant for our Children's Christmas Program January 7th.
